This web site contains everything you ever wanted to know about the SME Server and Gateway software. The philosophy behind its design, how its components work together, how to modify it, where to get it, and so on.

The SME Server and Gateway is free software (also referred to as open-source software) and is freely available for anyone to download.

This software is brought to you by contribs.org, a community of Open Source developers dedicated to create and maintain a secure and professional 'out of the box' server and gateway solution

We would like to remind you that the SME Server and Gateway software is licensed under the General Public License (GPL). This means that if you alter the software and distribute the altered version, you must make the source code for your altered version freely available.

The GPL is a large part of why free software has made such an impact on the commercial scene.
