Step 1: patch -p1 < eggdrop1.6.16-1.6.17.patch
          (this will patch eggdrop1.6.16 properly)

Step 2: mv eggdrop1.6.16 eggdrop1.6.17
          (this isn't really needed, but you are using 1.6.17 now)

Once you have done these steps, compile eggdrop1.6.17 like normal.
