- configure now respects CFLAGS environment variable.
  If CFLAGS is unset, the previous behavior (-O2, no -g) is preserved.
  Is there a good reason for NOT respecting CFLAGS?

- Set socket buffers to null after nfree()'ing them in killsock().
  A few places in the code were reading them after seeing they were
  != NULL but still uninitialized.  Cures a few random crashes.
