INSTALLATION and CONFIGURATION
1. OVERVIEW
The Monitoring Utilities make it possible for the monitoring of a SIMS
3.5 server to be automated. The utilities monitor the Message Access, Directory
Services, Message Transport (IMTA) Queue status and System utilization.
The utilities can also generate reports of the top mail submitters
and recipients for identifying the source(s) and destination(s) of spam
attacks. The utilities generate reports and mails it to the recipients
specified.
Collectively, the monitoring utilities describe the health of the SIMS
and make it possible for an administrator to constantly monitor the performance
of a SIMS based mail service.
2. Software Requirements
The monitoring utilities are designed to work with SIMS 3.5 or greater.
The utilities need to run on the same server as the services, refer
Example Configuration Scenarios document for more information.
The "immonitor reenqueue" utility uses the shared library libimsdk.so,
this requires SIMS SDK to be installed.
3. INSTALLATION
The monitoring utilities can be installed with pkgadd (1M) and the packages
are SUNWimcli, SUNWimclp, SUNWimclm and SUNWimclr
4. CONFIGURATION
For optimum SIMS monitoring, these scripts should be run periodically,
for example by creating cron (1M) entries. The monitoring utilities
are lightweight and they don't consume a lot of system resources. So, schedule
the utilities to run as often as required.
