Warning

This software is currently in an early pre-release state. This means that it may contain bugs and other glitches. You may run into trouble. It may be harmful (I hope not, but my lawyer want me to give you this warning). Use this software at your own risk.

Abstract

Sans-Faute/Grammaire is a French grammar checker and spell checker. It also spellchecks English. Sans-Faute/Grammaire is published by BCDL. There is a MacOS version of this software already available for years.

This is the BeOS version. It is a complete rewrite of the GUI that integrates the original Sans-Fautre/Grammaire engine written in portable C (this means that this is half a port, half a new application).

Sans-Faute/Grammaire for BeOS is currently in a preview release state. This does not represent a finished software. This release is free, but the final release won't be.

Requirements

This software requires BeOS PR2 running on a BeBox or a PowerMacintosh or compatible.

How to use it

Double-click on Sans-Faute/Grammaire icon to start it.

The main window

You have a window with 3 panels and some buttons. The first panel is the text to check spell. The second panel is the suggestion list. The third one is the explanation. These two aren't currently functionnal.

SpellChecking

Type in some text and click on the Check button.

Currently only global checking is supported. This means that you can only see where the mistakes are, but not what they are. This will come in a next release, because it still needs some work to be really usable.

After having checked the text, you'll see some colored words... In red, you'll have unknown words. In blue, you'll have syntax errors.

Example (with some bad french):

Ceci est une frase qui posent probleme.

frase is in read because it is written phrase. Correct the mistake and ask to check again.

You will see posent in blue because the verb use the 3rd plural person instead instead of 3rd single person. You should write pose. There is only on sentence :-). Correct and check again.

probleme is in red because you couldn't type the accent on your american keyboard. In French we write this problème.

Here is what you do have now:

Menus

Edit
Despite the standard edit command, there is Check the Clipboard. This will paste the clipboard content (if it is text) into the text window, then it will spellcheck.
Checking
Global Checking: this turns on the global checking mode. Currently, this is the only mode allowed, so you can't unmark it.

Remove Error Marks: this removes the error color in the text.

Check: same as the check button. Start checking.

Language
This menu let's you select your prefered language. By default it is French, but you can select English as well.
