Short: Amiga Emulation of the BEST BIT of Windows98 Author: bauk@tinyonline.co.uk (Nick Clover) Uploader: bauk tinyonline co uk (Nick Clover) Type: util/wb Version: 0.2 Architecture: m68k-amigaos Requires minimum: * OS 3.0 Additionally recommended: * An Amiga, monitor, mouse, keyboard etc... * Winslows Startbar type program (DOpus Magellan II is good). Installation: Copy ShutDown and the 2 logo files (logow.sys & logos.sys) anywhere you like but keep them together. Using your favourite startbar software, install Shutdown as the bottom item in the first menu... Usage: When it is run, one of the most discusting things you will ever see will pop up on your workbench screen (Antiperil sunglasses recommended!). This hideous box shaped collection of perverted pixels offers you 4 options. 1. Standy by - your monitors screen will turn black until you press the left mouse button. 2. Shut Down - this displays an even worse picture for about 10 seconds to alow drive access to finish, then puts up a "It is now safe to turn off your computer" picture. You can then switch off safely! (what a lot of crap PC owners have to put up with!). 3. Restart - displays the first picture, waits 10 seconds then resets. 4. Restart in MS-DOS mode - This takes a bit of setting up, but simply an empty file called .DosBoot is written to your SYS: partition. If you edit your S:Startup-Sequence and add the following lines: If Exists "SYS:.DosBoot" Delete "SYS:.DosBoot" >nil: Quit Endif Preferably after the mount dosdrivers section, when you reset, you will be dumped into a CLI window. The Gadgets: Drag the window with the 'Shut Down Windows' titlebar. Close the window with the 'X' gadget in the top right corner (Bloody stupid place for a close gadget - Left is best). 'OK' activates your selected option (I thought I'd better explain this just in case a pc user accidently reads this (can they read?) ). 'Cancel' quits the program (see above comment). 'Help' just displays a version requester (just like microsoft, it is technically helpful but totaly useless). The 'Emergency Escape Hatch' (EEH) If you have clicked on 'OK' then change your mind you have 10 seconds to activate the EEH. To do this just press (hit, smack, bash, thump or fondle, it's your keybaord after all) ESC. You will then be safely returned to workbench. The sys files: There are just 320x512 32 colour IFF pictures, replace them with anything you like but they MUST be no bigger then 320x512 and no more than 32 colours. the pictures are opened on a Pal Lo-Res 5 bit screen (laced or not depending on the picture). If you use a bigger picture, or more colours it won't be displayed progerly. Anything other than IFF format will probably result in a visit from the crash fairy... logow.sys is the first pic, logos.sys the safe message... To Do: Maybe add DPMS to the Stand By mode. Any more suggestions? History: V0.2 First public release. V0.1 Very dodgy beta.
