FEATool Multiphysics Simulation Toolbox v1.10 Released
With FEATool Multiphysics version 1.10, physics modeling and
simulation is now easier than ever to learn, featuring an updated GUI,
full FEniCS and OpenFOAM solver integration, with built-in and
automated step-by-step multiphysics modeling examples and
tutorials. In addition the new postprocessing mode includes one-click
integration with ParaView Glance and plotly web based visualization,
enabling quick and convenient export and sharing of fully interactive
simulation results with colleagues and coworkers. Moreover, many new
simulation examples and tutorials are available for heat transfer,
computational fluid dynamics (CFD), structural mechanics,
electromagnetics and more partial differential equation (PDE) based
physics simulation types.

The Ginkgo team is proud to announce the first release of Ginkgo, the
next-generation high-performance on-node sparse linear algebra
library. Ginkgo leverages the features of modern C++ to give you a
tool for the iterative solution of linear systems that is:
- Easy to use via a C++ interface;
- Attaining high performance from CUDA kernels highly optimized for
today's GPU-accelerated high-end systems;
- Controllable by specifying execution back-end (OpenMP, CUDA,
reference);
- Composable in terms of combining and cascading different solvers and
preconditioners via a novel linear operator abstraction;
- Extensible in terms of algorithms, matrix formats, and other
components via a script pre-generating the new class-, header-, and
file structure;
- Expandable to other hardware via adding back-ends without touching
the algorithm implementations;
- Setting new standards in terms of correctness and reproducibility
via a comprehensive unit testing framework comparing the high
performance back-ends to a sequential reference implementation.
Ginkgo is a collaborative effort including the Karlsruhe Institute of
Technology, University of Jaume I, University of Tennessee, and other

This project is a collaborative project between mathematicians in Bath
and Cambridge, medical researchers and clinicians from Addenbrookes
hospital and GE Healthcare, with support from advisors from UCL,
Oxford, Kings College London, University of Helsinki and KTH
Stockholm. We are looking for two excellent and ambitious postdoctoral
researchers who want to join this research endeavour. Please note
that this is part of a wider recruitment for postdoctoral research
staff with another post advertised at Bath University.
Duties of the successful candidate include developing and conducting
individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and
projects. The role holder will be expected to plan and manage their
own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to
assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external
bodies. You must be able to communicate material of a technical nature
and be able to build internal and external contacts. You may be asked
to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of
student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars
relating to the research area. The successful candidate will have a
PhD degree in mathematics or a closely related subject. Expertise in
one or more of optimisation, inverse imaging problems and variational
reconstruction approaches, large- scale computation as well as in

The optimization group at FAU has more than 25 years of experience in
modeling and solving complex and very large-scale planning and
decision problems from logistics, energy, production, engineering, and

key expertise is in developing and applying models and algorithms,
which yield proven optimal solutions to optimization problems. This
involves techniques like linear, nonlinear, and integer programming,
robust optimization, graph algorithms, polyhedral combinatorics, and
the like. Furthermore, design of efficient heuristics and exact
algorithms together with effective implementations is key
expertise. The chair EDOM - Economics, Discrete Optimization,
Mathematics (Chair Wirtschaftsmathematik) consists of 20+ PhD students
and Postdocs, and is headed by Frauke Liers and Alexander Martin. The
group participates in many projects funded by the German Science
Foundation (DFG), the German Federal Ministry of Education and
Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy
(BMWi), the European Union, as well as by the industry. The position
is for a period of three years, with possible extension by another
three years. It may start as soon as possible.
It is expected that during their doctoral research, candidates have
gained research independence in one or more of the following areas:
- mixed-integer linear and nonlinear optimization,
- optimization under uncertainty, especially robust optimization,
- discrete mathematics,
- nonlinear optimization,
- mathematical data science.
You should be interested in doing research on optimization models and
methods. You should also like to validate them in real-world
applications such as energy, logistics, and analytics. You should like

Subject: Postdoc Position, Ocean Biogeochemical Modeling
A computational postdoctoral position in Ocean Biogeochemical Modeling
is available at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole. This
NSF- funded, collaborative project with the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology will focus on combining thermodynamics and trait-based
biogeochemical models to augment an existing marine ecosystem modeling
framework ('Darwin model') developed at MIT.
We are seeking an individual with a PhD in oceanography, engineering,
applied math or related field who has interest or experience in marine
biogeochemical modeling. While not required, knowledge in
thermodynamics, numerical analysis and/or optimal control theory will
be considered advantageous. The successful candidate will be expected
to work collaboratively with teams at both MBL and MIT, but will be
employed at MBL.

Summary: The Center for Research in Mathematical Sciences Applied to
Industry(CEPID-CeMEAI) at University of Sao Paulo opens a
post-doctoral research position in Optimization and Operations
Research. The selected candidate will work at Institute of
Mathematics, Statistics and Scientific Computing, University of
Campinas. Sao Paulo Research Foundation provides the financial
support with a monthly salary of R$ 7.373,10. An extra grant is also
provided to cover participation in highly relevant conferences and
workshops, as well as research trips (limited to 15% of the annual
amount of the fellowship). The position is for one year.
Project: Tailings Dams failures and consequent flooding of down-river
regions affecting
society and nature.
Summary: Brazil has a significant quantity of tailings dams (over
seven hundred) which receive the byproducts of several kinds resulting
from mining operations. About 200 of these present serious risks in
terms of the consequences for society, communities and nature. The
purpose of this project is that of studying these kinds of dams with
applied mathematical tools modelling and numerically simulating the
delicate equilibrium between stability and failure as well as the
consequent flooding effects in the many aspects that these failures
entail.
Requirements: Proponents must have a solid background in Mathematics,
Physics as well as Scientific Computing and the Visualization of
numerical results, since the first objective I that of studying
existing mathematical models and creating variations and/or new models
that allow for viable evaluations and predictions of the involved
phenomena. Expertise is necessary in numerical methods and analysis,
partial differential equations and optimization techniques, inverse
problems and the adjustment of models and parameters. Besides this, it
will also be necessary to work quite closely with engineers,
biologists, geologists, ecologists as well as social scientists. The
proponent must also show initiative in the modelling of unforeseen
events resulting from the breaking of equilibrium states such as those
resulting from dam failures in terms of human, social, ecological and
economical consequences. It is necessary to have a doctorate in
Applied Mathematics, Engineering and related Sciences and must be
available for field trips in regions where these tailings dams are
present and where dam failures have occurred.
